Re: Popcorn Fiction

Benicemi,

Get in line.  Samson: a new short story from Cool Clay is cocked and loaded, and ready to be submitted.  I hope to capture the imagination of the public who went to see The Passion of the Christ.  This "built in" audience is ready for more heroics from their favorite biblical characters.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

I missed "Shake" when it was online as I was moving. I saw in the Letters to the Editor at www.popcornfiction.com that you said you had to pull it & at some point you will put it back up again. I have been eagerly awaiting for months. Therefore, I am overcoming my timidity & asking if you have any idea very roughly how long we must wait before we can read it. I think I can be quite patient yet longer, but perhaps if I have a general idea then I will know when to look for it so I don't miss its reappearance. I hear people talk about it & it's hard to wait in the inky blackness of not knowing if it will have to be until after the movie comes out.

By the way, I used to really enjoy reading Hammett, Chandler, Poe & Christie (as well as beloved Sherlock Holmes) so I like reading in the wide genre.

Thank you.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

JW!  Good to hear from you again.  I wish I had better news but I don't know when I'll put it back up.  Probably not until after the script is finished and it looks like the movie is going or close to going.

Sorry!

Re: Popcorn Fiction

It is okay. Thanks for the kind response. I do hear people mention it in conversation. Waiting in suspense though I guess that makes it all the more fun when I get to read & see it.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

I think you'll like the little piece of Popcorn Fiction coming on Monday from acclaimed writer/director Rian Johnson.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

Thanks for the recommendation. I read it for the second time. It's very cinematic. The images flickered in my head so that I could imagine it on film with the rhythms of the train's movement, the meter & the frames per second all combining for effect. I also really enjoyed the twists & tightness of the story structure.

Someone, a magician, mentioned a couple interesting ideas to me the other day. One is that he heard that some magicians time their act to the same rhythm as the number of heartbeats within a specific amount of time. They use misdirection & I think time the switch (I know only the teeniest bit about magic from having read a book on it to learn about writing) according to the rhythm of the heartbeat such that the audience always misses it.

I thought that was a fascinating idea & wondered about experimenting with that with frames per second in film.

I remembering hearing something vague about experimentation with this in an editing class though it wasn't entirely on this topic. I think it was more about putting in a completely different frame in a series of film frames such that the audience will miss it but perhaps it might have a subconscious effect? Have you heard of anything about this topic? I thought it'd be great in a movie about switches, gambling & cons or in the film noir genre.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

It's too bad that Rian is kind of an ass.

A new horror-suspense story is up from John August.  "Snake People" centers on a boy who goes home with an eerie couple.  Check it out!

Re: Popcorn Fiction

I haven't been posting on here every time a new story is up, but we keep going strong.  The magazine WRITTEN BY interviewed me for an article they are writing about the site, so that should draw more readers in.  I've got some great fiction coming, and even discovered a few new writers from the open submission process I did in the Spring.  I will definitely try that again in the Fall, once this movie wraps.

Re: Popcorn Fiction

Derek - any word on if/when 'Shake' will be made available again for consumption?  Missed it during the short period of time it was up (before JB snagged it).

Re: Popcorn Fiction

It's going to be a while, Geoff.  I hate to have it down, but I have to honor JB's wishes on this one.  Maybe I'll get another one written in the meantime...
