Richard Gere and Topher Grace are teaming up for "The Double," a Hyde Park-Imagenation Abu Dhabi spy thriller on which scribe Michael Brandt will make his directorial debut.
Brandt and his writing partner Derek Haas, who were wrote movies like "Wanted" and "3:10 to Yuma," penned "Double," which begins with a murder of a senator in Washington by a Soviet assassin long thought to be dead. A retired CIA operative (Gere), who spent his career going toe to toe with his Soviet nemeses, is forced to partner with a young FBI agent (Grace) to hunt the killer down.
Brandt said he was a fan of films such as "The Conversation," "Three Days of the Condor" and "No Way Out," and hoped to follow in their tradition.
Production is scheduled for June in Detroit.
The movie is part of Hyde Park and Imagenation's $250 million financing deal to make up to 20 films over a seven years, with additional financing for the production of local language and cross-cultural films. (The two also partnered on Hyde Park Imagenation Singapore.)
Hyde Park chairman Ashok Amritraj and executive vp production Patrick Aiello will produce along with Haas and Industry Entertainment's Andrew Deane. Aiello brought in the project at Hyde Park and will oversee. Hyde Park International, headed by president Mimi Steinbauer, is repping worldwide rights for the film.
Imagenation chairman Mohamed Khalaf Al-Mazrouei and CEO Edward Borgerding will serve as executive producers while COO Stefan Brunner will act as associate producer.
Gere last appeared in "Brooklyn's Finest," and Grace next appears in Twentieth Century Fox's "Predators."
Gere, Grace, Brandt and Haas are repped by WME.

We're in week 3 of prep. Detroit is actually great for locations. All the departments are working hard to figure out how to make this movie come together on time and on budget. Michael's ideas are ambitious, but our DP (Jeffrey Kimball) and our Production Designer (Giles Masters) are plunging ahead and up for the challenge. We roll cameras on June 23rd, which seems to be rapidly approaching.

So how did your Production go on The Double?

We're currently in Week 3. The production is going really well, I think. I don't want to jinx anything. We have our biggest day today in terms of what we'll try to accomplish in a 12 hour period. So wish us luck.

Excellent!
We start work on "Lonestar" on Tuesday. Didn't get the part I wanted but it's still work.

What is Lonestar, Paul?

It's a new TV series shooting in Dallas with Jon Voight and David Keith. Shoots until Dec. Originally called "Midland". It's slotted on Fox after "House" on Monday nights at 9pm CST.

That's great! What part did you get?

At casting Thursday the Producer and Director said they had something that they wanted to talk to me about. Right now they made me Jon Voight's stand-in for the season - same thing I did for the pilot. As always, I'll believe the casting part when it happens. You know how this business is, a lot of smoke and mirrors...

Cool. Stand-ins are of course, important, and it's a good steady acting gig. And I've often seen the stand-ins end up with roles in the series. Best of luck!

Thanks. that's how I got a couple of other gigs.

We wrapped Detroit on Tuesday night and I'm back in LA for the first time since May. Great time... Detroit treated us well. We still have 2 and a half days to shoot in LA but won't be for ten weeks while we scout locations here.
Anyway... great time, acting was incredible, Michael directed his ass off... we're thrilled.

Very nice! Can't wait to see it. I bet Detroit is pretty happy to have that money come it's way. Times are tough there.
Just got off a early wrap on "Chase". Did a short gig as County Bailiff Dixon. That's a Jerry Bruckheimer project. Paul McCrane is directing (actor in ER and Fame).
